Written Communication

Written Communication Summary: The learner will exchange ideas and information with others using written text in a manner effective and appropriate for the intended audience.

Reflection: The artifact I chose for Written Communication was the Organizational Structure and Labor Presentation. The Assignment was created in April of 2024 for a 16-week course. The course was online, and it pertained to Introduction to Business. It was intended to be a business presentation outlining the merits of my business.  I chose this artifact since it was the best example of my ability to craft a presentation that can be presented to a professional audience. I learned a few lessons from the artifact. The first lesson from the artifact was a rudimentary setup of a company. While creating this assignment, I had to do research on the type of companies, how they operate, and what types of practices they employed to attract clients. Another lesson I learned while crafting this assignment was presenting the information professionally. It took me days to ascertain the information I need to do just that, and even then, I had to design the presentation accordingly to give it a professional feel.

Written Communication is an important key skill. It pertains to the ability to communicate fact and evidence-based information to certain audiences. In the case of my business presentation, I was aiming to reach a certain audience, which was an audience of potential clients and investors for my business. If I presented the information in a causal style or in a shoddy manner, the audience would be driven away from business and seek a better alternative.

It relates to the goals I established in the earlier assignment by relating back to the objectives I had set out. Throughout the assignment, I was trying to communicate to my audience and explain my company’s functions and benefits in a professional manner. This artifact represents a part of my journey at SPCC as it shows me picking up knowledge on skills related to business, which is an important part of SPCC education. My journey in SPCC has been full of twists and turns, and my business presentation is one example of my amassing of new skills and knowledge. It marks a milestone in that I was able to synthesize a presentation using a blend of original ideas and tactics that have been refined over time.

One goal I set for the assignment was to find a shining example of my ability to communicate with certain audiences. I believe this artifact accomplishes that in its layout, design, and language. A few other assignments in psychology and introduction to business have also contributed to my ability to write to certain audiences. Another goal I set for this assignment was simply to make sure the work reflected my ability to communicate formally, since communication is a highly vital skill that is needed. Countless studies prove that a person who is well-spoken and can present the information in a formal matter is more likely to lead a successful life.

My learning from this assignment is significant in that I now know how to write and present information to a variety of audiences to the best of my ability. There are plenty of assignments that have helped me hone this skill, but this presentation remains the best example of my work in written communication.

A few strengths of my assignment are that it is professionally crafted and clearly addressed towards a specific audience, but a few weaknesses are that it is not as elaborative as some of my other works are, and it also includes lots of visualizations rather than words.

An example of my work in the presentation is this excerpt: “My company is dedicated to serving the Greater Monroe area and we strive towards providing our customers, employees, and affiliates with the best experience.” This quote clearly shows that my presentation was aimed at customers (referred to as clients) and interested investors. I hope that the people viewing my work will be as interested in the presentation as much as I spent working on it.
